In the April/May issue of Insight into Diversity Magazine, I discussed how college campuses are facing new challenges addressing the diversity of multiracial students. Multiracial students are also experiencing some reflective moments that begin with college admissions forms on the “checking more than one race” conundrum. Admissions to colleges have always been competitive. However, our current economy is making college admissions much more competitive for all students, which has resulted in two things:

  1. Multiracial students wonder if checking particular box(es) may assist or hinder their application and some students are using multiracial identity to supposedly “boost” their chances.
  2. College institutions are trying to maintain an equal process for all underrepresented groups but are facing challenges on how to include multiracial students in terms of admissions.
What do you think?
